Appeal

Let’s make March 8th, 2019 a women’s strike, a day of solidarity among women.

In defense of our economic, social and legal demands.

Our rejection to all forms of violence in private and public places.

Let’s make our voice heard against all forms of discrimination, inequity and oppression.

Let’s, we, women of Morocco, who are deprived of our full rights: all the women who work in the factories, the workers, the peasants, the farmers, the students, the public sector employees, and all the women in the villages and cities ,let’s prove to the world, all together that : we, women, if we stop, the world will stop.

Let’s leave our usual place, work and home, and invade the streets on March 8th, 2019.

March the 8th, is a remarkable day in the history of the struggle of the women of the world to get their rights and impose equality. Women continue their struggle throughout the planet in various forms to end economic and social inequality, and are resisting on a daily basis, and each minute, the injustice of male culture, which deprives women of their dignity and deprives them of equal rights to men in all spheres of life.

Despite some of the gains made by the women’s struggle, the conditions of their exploitation have not changed radically, and they have not stopped suffering from economic and social injustice in a capitalist economy that seeks maximum profits.

The refusal to recognize the household as a waged job is a feature of this exploitation, as all tasks of household continue to consume the vast amount of women’s lives and exhausts them.

Women’s living conditions are deteriorating day after day, due to the violence of the liberal policies, which are moving towards speeding up the merchandising of everything and the dissociation of social protection laws. Women are increasingly paying the price of privatization of education, health and the destruction of employment opportunities. Pregnant women have high death rates because they are unable to access health services. And women’s high illiteracy rates indicate the discrimination they have suffered from for decades.

This discrimination that targets women in all aspects of their lives largely explains their low status compared to men in the areas of work and wages. Thus, most women are employed in fragile labor, get temporary work contracts, and their unionization is weak compared to that of men, which makes it easier for the employer to get rid of them. The discrimination in employment extends even to high certificates females holders, as their employment rate remains weak compared to males. Their wages are, on average, lower than that of men in most sectors. And one the consequences of introducing vulnerability to public sectors will be the worsening of the situation of women’s exploitation and the increase of their inequality, especially that they – private sectors – have been for decades the prime sectors in women’s employment.

In the villages, agricultural land is being rapidly uprooted and concentrated by local and foreign investors. Rural women remain the largest deprived group of their right to land, due to the continued domination of the male mentality in the sharing of land and the use of its revenues and the growth of capital projects on these lands. The rise of the “Solaliyat” struggle is one of the forms of women’s resistance against the robbery of their full rights to land and what its goods.

The destruction of substantial agriculture due to the dominance of the export-oriented agricultural industrial model, is negatively affecting women’s food needs by directing everything to foreign markets and importing the bulk of basic food. The deprivation of women from good food will get worse due to the high prices of basic consumption items in domestic markets, because of the policy of deregulation of prices by the State in application of liberal openness policies, and as a result, diseases associated with malnutrition among women will increase further.

Women in Morocco, especially the poor, do not benefit from a protection to their dignity and their right to life; male violence leaves many victims, sometimes with the loss of life; women are victims of sexual harassment acts on a daily basis; and the current law against violence against women does not provide effective mechanisms to protect women and follow the perpetrators of violent crimes. Despite the slight gains made by previous laws, they do not affect the essence of the male inheritance that legitimizes the inferiority of women. Discrimination against women cannot be eliminated in any way without eradicating the source of economic and social inequity.

To all the women of Morocco, to the organizations and unions, and all the struggle dynamics in which women exist in defense of freedom, dignity, social justice, democracy and equality:

We call on all the struggle organizations in Morocco to be strongly involved in calling for a women’s strike on March 8 in all possible forms and to include recognition as a holiday day to be compensated for in the list of union demands in honor of the sacrifices of women workers who sacrificed their lives to recognize women’s rights.

We, the women of Morocco, like the women of the world, protest on March 8th, 2019 to hold off all State violations of the social and economic rights of the Moroccan people, and to condemn all forms of violence against women.

Let us all mobilize, wherever we are, to go out on this day to continue our struggle, we, women who are involved in the struggle of our people in defense of freedom and against oppression and detention.

Let’s march, we women, on this day, for our solidarity, to stop the destruction of our planet, the poisoning of our environment and to cry out against the wars, the racism and the forced displacement that women endure.

We women in our struggle and solidarity are able to create another life based on respect for nature, freedom, peace and co-existence.
