ECSA MARSEILLE 2024 - THE CADTM WILL BE REPRESENTED

In the run-up to the European elections on 9 June, a coalition of organisations from across the continent is meeting in Marseille to recreate a common space for all social movements and citizens to share their experiences and challenges and develop joint initiatives and mobilisations.

Inspired by the values of previous European social forums, the aim of Marseille is to bring together the organisations and social movements that oppose neoliberalism and capitalist globalisation to propose alternatives to those who, like us, are seeking to create a political system that is representative of its citizens and the challenges they face.

As part of this process, a delegation of 15 CADTM members will be going there to offer a series of workshops. The following topics will be addressed:

- The new international debt crisis
- The BRICS BRICS The term BRICS (an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) was first used in 2001 by Jim O’Neill, then an economist at Goldman Sachs. The strong economic growth of these countries, combined with their important geopolitical position (these 5 countries bring together almost half the world’s population on 4 continents and almost a quarter of the world’s GDP) make the BRICS major players in international economic and financial activities. , China and the African Development Bank as new creditors
- The ecological debt
- Food sovereignty, in partnership with Via Campesina
- The rise and normalisation of the far right
- The impact of debts on migration
