We, organisations, social movements and international personalities, meeting in Kathmandu on the sidelines of the 16th World Social Forum (WSF), condemn the kidnapping of our comrade from Burkina Faso, Rasmane Zinaba.
Rasmane Zinaba, organiser of the Balai Citoyen movement in Burkina Faso, was abducted on 20 February 2024 from his home in Ouagadougou by unidentified armed individuals dressed in civilian clothes.
In 2011, Rasmane Zinaba, then a member of Attac/CADTM Burkina, took part in the caravan of social movements and the 10th WSF in Dakar.
We join Balai Citoyen in condemning these disgraceful acts and demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Rasmane Zinaba and the lawyer Guy Hervé Kam, who was also abducted on 24 January 2024 in Ouagadougou by men in civilian clothes and has since been held in state security buildings. Guy-Hervé Kam has pleaded in a number of emblematic cases, including the 2015 putsch trial and the trial for the assassination of Thomas Sankara and his companions as a civil party.
