Sit-in à l’occasion de la journée internationale de Solidarité avec la Révolution Syrienne

Global Day of Solidarity with the Syrian Revolution

Bourse, Brussels

31 May 2013 // 19:00 – 22:00

Since the spring of 2011, the Syrian people fight to demand basic human rights, dignity, and freedom from the dictatorial rule of the Assad clan and their Baath party. This call for freedom has been met with the brutal savagery of Assad’s bombs and chemical weapons. Massacres are ongoing, detainees are held without trial and subject to torture, all while the regime injects its poison of confessional division – the Syrian conflict is reaching the apex of absurdity. It is time to rise in tandem for freedom and dignity !

To date :

* 100,000 people have died

* As many, if not more, have been detained and/or disappeared

* 1.5 million refugees have fled to neighbouring countries in search of safety

o More than 200,000 await registration with UNHCR

* 4 million (15% of the total population) are internally displaced

* Men, women, and children – civilians – are indiscriminately targeted by the regime’s warfare

* Thousands of homes and shops have been razed

* Archaeological and historical treasures have been destroyed

* Zero UN observers are on Syrian soil to document the atrocious human rights violations taking place on a daily basis in Syria

We call for :

* Total isolation of the Syrian regime by all nation states

* Expelling the Syrian regime’s ambassador to the United Nations, Bashar al Jaafari, from his post

* Implementing the pre-existing sanctions on Syrian regime officials

* Closing the Syrian regime’s embassy to Belgium and the European Union

* Facilitating asylum and opening borders for Syrian refugees and asylum seekers

* Closing Syrian refugee detention camps in Greece and elsewhere

* Protecting the rights and freedoms of Syrian refugees and asylum seekers

Join us in solidarity with the Syrian revolution by signing our banner to oust Assad ! We implore you to :

* Write to your national representatives

* Mobilize your local trade unions, civil society organisations, and social movements to implement humanitarian support

* Spread the news in your community

* Stay informed

We dedicate this sit-in to the unlawfully detained and tortured in Syria.
