The undersigned organisations, members of the International Council of the World Social Forum, strongly condemn the military aggression perpetrated on 3 January 2026 by the Government of the United States of America against the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro Moros and the first combatant Cilia Flores. This action violates the sovereignty and self- determination of the Venezuelan people and threatens all peoples of the world. It is an act of colonial war that violates the Charter of the United Nations and the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
What was committed on 3 January was clearly announced in the arrogant ‘National Security Strategy of the United States of America’, an imperialist project, a new Trumpist corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, which seeks to restore, in a senseless but coherent manner, US omnipotence and priorities throughout the American continent. Its objective is to exercise direct control over the continent and seize its natural resources, in particular the largest oil reserves on the planet, which are located in Venezuela.
This is a goal that the United States has failed to achieve, because the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, from the interim presidency, through the armed forces and police, to popular organisations, is expressing its support for legitimate institutions, maintaining control and ensuring the normal development of life in the country.
We must now unite all our forces, with a strategy of solidarity and internationalism, to resist the attack on multilateralism that the United States is intensifying with its withdrawal from most international treaties and organisations, particularly the UN.
It will be a historic date if we fail to stop this major offensive against democracy and peace. Its aim is to crush any ambition citizens may have to build a fairer world that better protects the planet.
It is urgent to denounce and condemn the United States’ aggression against Venezuela, to demand the release of its president, regardless of what one may think of him, but also to demand respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, the sovereignty of peoples and an end to the plundering of natural resources.
From this moment on, we express our full solidarity with the Venezuelan and Caribbean peoples, as well as with all of Latin America, and we affirm that they are not alone in front of worldwide imperialism.
We invite all social, popular and political movements :
• to join the global rejection of this imperialist and colonialist act, because our sovereignty and self-determination are in danger.
• to participate in current and future anti-globalisation resistance activities on all continents, within the framework of the World Social Forum (WSF) process or outside this framework, with a view to achieving the strongest possible
mobilisation for the WSF in Cotonou from 4 to 8 August 2026.
In this context of war and ecological destruction, now more than ever, together for Unity, Justice and Peace for all.
