Attac Morocco | Member of the international Committee for the Abolition of Illegitimate Debt
7 July by ATTAC/CADTM Morocco
The Eighth National Congress of ATTAC Morocco will be held on 11&12th of July 2026 under the slogan:
“Together, Strengthening Resistance in Defence of Popular Sovereignty and Social and Environmental Justice.”
The opening session of the Congress will be held on Friday, 10 July 2026, at 6:00 p.m., at the headquarters of the Moroccan Labour Union in Rabat (UMT), which will also host the proceedings of the Congress.
The Congress is being held in the context of international backdrop marked by the deepening structural crises of the capitalist system, the escalation of imperialist wars, the continuing aggression against peoples, and the worsening climate and environmental crisis, alongside the growing wave of popular resistance across the world in defence of freedom, popular sovereignty, and social and environmental justice.
The Congress is also being held in the context of the ongoing genocide being waged by the Zionist occupation against the Palestinian people, with the direct backing of U.S. imperialism and the complicity of the capitalist powers of the West, in an attempt to entrench a settler-colonial project targeting the Palestinian people and the region as a whole. On this occasion, ATTAC Morocco reaffirms its full solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for liberation, the right of return, and self-determination. It also reiterates its principled rejection of all forms of normalization with the Zionist entity.
At the national level, the state continues to deepen the policy choices promoted by the international financial institutions, which have entrenched dependency, widened social and regional inequalities, weakened public services, increased the cost of living, intensified labour precarity, and depleted natural resources, while safeguarding the interests of big capital. This is accompanied by an intensified crackdown on public freedoms and the targeting of activists in social and humanitarian movements, opponents of normalization, journalists, bloggers, the Gen Z youth, students, and unemployed graduates, among others, reflecting the close interconnection between political authoritarianism and neoliberal economic policies.
In the face of this reality, ATTAC Morocco affirms that building alternatives requires strengthening popular resistance, reinforcing coordination among the various social and democratic movements, and contributing to the construction of a social balance Balance End of year statement of a company’s assets (what the company possesses) and liabilities (what it owes). In other words, the assets provide information about how the funds collected by the company have been used; and the liabilities, about the origins of those funds. of forces capable of imposing alternative policies that serve the interests of the majority and open the way toward building a democratic society founded on popular sovereignty, social and environmental justice, equality, and liberation from all forms of exploitation and dependency.
The Eighth Congress constitutes an important organizational and political milestone for assessing the Association’s work since its Seventh Congress, held in December 2022, renewing its leadership structures, and defining its priorities for the coming period. Throughout this term, the Association has continued its work in popular education, the struggle against illegitimate debt, the defence of economic, social, and environmental rights, and active engagement in social struggles. It has also continued to strengthen its role within the Committee for the Abolition of Illegitimate Debt (CADTM) through its responsibilities in the Network’s International Joint Secretariat, thereby reinforcing internationalist cooperation and solidarity among activist networks and movements at both the international and regional levels. The Association has also worked to expand its media and public outreach despite organizational challenges and the state’s continued denial of its legal right to renew its deposit receipt.
The Congress will devote a significant part of its proceedings to discussing ways to strengthen the Association’s work, deepen its grassroots presence, and enhance its contribution to building resistance, as set out in the draft Congress papers, including:
• Opposing:
o debt and dependency on international financial institutions;
o free trade agreements;
o wars and militarization.
• Defending food sovereignty.
• Defending environmental and climate justice, and the right to natural resources.
• Strengthening the feminist perspective in confronting the multidimensional oppression of women.
As ATTAC Morocco calls upon its members, partners, the various democratic and progressive forces, and the media to follow and engage with the proceedings of its Eighth National Congress, it affirms that this Congress is not merely an organizational milestone, but an opportunity to renew its collective commitment to continuing the struggle alongside the various social and popular movements for the construction of a society founded upon popular sovereignty, freedom, dignity, and social and environmental justice, one that puts people and nature above the logic of profit Profit The positive gain yielded from a company’s activity. Net profit is profit after tax. Distributable profit is the part of the net profit which can be distributed to the shareholders. and the domination of capital.
