At the conference held on the evening of 23 September 2025 in Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande Do Sul, there were 80 people in attendance. On the podium were Raul Pont, former mayor of Porto Alegre (1993-1997) and leader of the PT; Roberto Robaina, city councillor and president of the PSOL in Porto Alegre; Edison Puchalski, local president of the PCdoB; Lara Rodrigues, local leader of the MST (Landless Workers’ Movement) and member of its national leadership; and Eric Toussaint, international spokesperson for CADTM.
In the audience were representatives of various trade unions, student organisations, feminist organisations and popular education organisations. Also present in the room were Rodrigo Dilelio, current president of the PT in Porto Alegre, Leonel Radde, PT deputy in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul, Luciana Genro, PSOL deputy in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul, Raul Carrión, leader of the PCdoB, and Israel Dutra, member of the PSOL national leadership.

This was the launch conference for the international anti-fascist conference to be held in Porto Alegre from 26 to 29 March 2026. Gabi Toloti, one of the main organisers of the anti-fascist conference and president of the PSOL in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, was absent because she is participating in the flotilla of more than 40 boats travelling by sea to Gaza, which is currently off the coast of Malta.
The local organising committee, which now consists of the MST, several trade unions, the PSOL, the PT and the PCdoB, is likely to expand in the coming days.
