The Urgent Need to Better Measure Household Debt

Sébastien Michiels, Arnaud Natal, Isabelle Guérin and Timothée Narring have authored a paper on household debt in the North and Global South, which CADTM is pleased to publish. The paper looks at the measurement of household debt, the use of credit cards, and the gendered and racial dimensions of debt. It also proposes a reading in terms of social classes.
Sushovan Dhar and Vicki Briault Manus have translated the paper.

Né en 1992, Timothée Narring est sociologue et ethnographe au sein du Cessma (Université Paris cité). Ses recherches explorent les liens entre l’endettement et la reproduction sociale des classes populaires au Brésil. En 2022, Timothée a achevé la thèse suivante: "L’étreinte de la dette. Une ethnographie de l’endettement des milieux populaires de Vitoria: au sein et au-delà des favelas de Vitoria (Brésil).
